Salmon Season is Here!!

With the event of catching two nice sized Salmon on Saturday evening..we can say Salmon Season is officially back again on Washington Island, Wisconsin in Lake Michigan. We had 5 hits- two got away, one big one broke the line right at the back of the boat before we could net it and then we caught two. We usually fish at sunset for 2-3 hours and end up with 1-4 fish each time. Dave cleans and filets them and seals them up in nice packets for friends and family. He loves to smoke some- that is our favorite way to eat them too but it takes a number of hours and since we left sunday afternoon for home we didn't smoke any this time.

It is such a lovely expereince sitting in the boat slowly trolling along on the Lake at sunset. The water is calm and the sun sparkles on the water as it sinks into the sunset on the horizon. On Saturday the sunset was a bright red slit at the horizon..it was beautiful. I never saw a sunset quite like that one! We have so many photos of sunsets on Lake Michigan from over the years, all different from each other and the more clouds the prettier the colors! Fishing at sunset is a realxing, lovely thing to do and as i have said before, i really don't even care if we catch anything..it is just a blessing to be out in the fresh air, cruising along on the lake and talking with friends and family...and yes extra fun if the fish are biting!

Some of Dave's family is coming up to the island for the fourth of July weekend. He has three generations of relatives born on the fourth of JULY- his grandfather, uncle and brother. Hence we always try to get together on the 4th for some family fun and picnicking. It should be fun and hopefully we will catch a few more Salmon to cook up!!
